The first step in the project will be to begin cultivation of medicinal plants
Medicinal plant cultivation
The first step in the project will be to begin cultivation of medicinal plants. This can begin immediately.
Southern Bhutan is a lush, subtropical paradise, and many Sowa Rigpa herbs grow very well in the area. The primary species will be ‘black agar,’ the Aquillaria tree so highly prized for its aroma and medicinal properties. This will be complimented by other trees and unserstory plants, following principles of permaculture and sustainable herbal cultivation.
Primary Cultivation Species
Aquilaria sp., black agarwood (ཨར་ནག)
Green and black cardamom (sukmel, kakola སུག་སྨེལ། ཀ་ཀོ་ལ།)
The three fruits (a ru, ba ru, kyu ru ཨ་རུ་བ་རུ་སྐྱུ་རུ།)
Champaka flower (ཙམ་པ་ཀ་མེ་ཏོག།)
Ginger varieties (སྒ།)
And dozens of other subtropical medicinal plants
The next stage will be to begin construction on the bulding and facilities of the center
Construction of the Center
The next stage will be to begin construction on the bulding and facilities of the center. We will build a three-story main building, following traditional Bhutanese principles of construction.
~5 hectare facility for herbal cultivation
Cultivation of dozens of endemic medicinal trees and smaller plants used in Sowa Rigpa.
